fwiw I was using fitday to track my calories when I was going through a phase to obssesively document my intake... it's a good idea to do for at least a week to get a sense of how much you really eat...

If I were you, I wouldn't be afraid of trying to build strength now. My working theory...
increased Strength == increased lean muscle mass lean muscle requires more calories to maintain than fat == higher (effective) basal metabolic rate... make it easier to burn fat and keep it off... as long as you have plenty of protein in your diet to hopefully not burn muscle (which is the body's natural response to calorie deficit...)
I dunno... even though muscle weighs more and the fat you lose might be counter set on the scale with muscle gain, (which is discouraging)... I think you'll see/feel physical benefits faster...
with that said... I don't know what I'm talking about... and it doesn't matter.... you keep hitting the gym and governing what you eat a little bit, you'll totally get where you want to be, dude!

fast on, fast off... get back in the gym and to a normal calories and it'll just be a blip.
What's your strength training regimen?
I was doing stronglifts 5x5 program for a while, but kinda have deviated but kept some of the ideas (gradual progression/adding 5lbs... the five sets of 5 reps... focusing on compound exercises that work bigger muscles like bench, squat, overhead press, rows, etc)
*shrug* i'm sure you've done some lifting in the past, but it's all been new to me so it was helpful for me as a program to get started.
You getting anyone to come to the gym regularly with you? That helps...
